Stunning sunsets and nostalgia
With the complete lack of events, parties and gatherings since March, I’ve had plenty of time to rethink what I should focus on as a photographer and for the past few months I’ve given a lot of thought to what makes an image one that someone would like to display on their wall or send as a greeting card.
The market for wall art and stationery is huge and since I love to take photos of beautiful scenes, it makes sense for me to consider this. Of course, everyone’s idea of beauty differs and what one person will consider hanging permanently or even temporarily on their home or office wall might be the same piece that someone else can’t bear to look at for more than a few minutes.
It’s interesting then to view what’s popular and to think where the type of photography I like fits with that. Three themes which seem to be hugely popular are sunsets, nature and nostalgia. Of those, sunsets are my top choice because they’re something I love to capture.
Looking back over the past eight months since mid March, it’s odd to think that I went from someone who had a tentative dream about producing images good enough to print, to now in November having prints for sale on my website. I’ve got a lot to learn over the coming years and a long road to travel but it’s very exciting, as it was when I started my photography journey, that I’m now starting on my art prints journey as well.
Once I enter this market I can let my creativity run free and that’s both exhilarating and nerve wracking. And of course, once we’re free of the virus and events are happening again, any creative progress I make will help my photography for others.
This image today isn’t one I’m offering as a print but it is of a stunning sunset! So I’ve chosen it since it fits my theme today and in the next few days I’ll blog about one of my prints and link to that page of my website.
If you have any views on what makes good wall art photography, let me know in the comments, it’s very interesting to hear everyone’s views.
