Long held lockdown goal - achieved!
Last night I worked until around 10.30 putting the finishing touches to my website page for prints. This feels like the accomplishment of a long held dream but when I looked back in my notebook where I record my training, goals, dreams, helpful hints etc, I can see that the first mention of producing prints as a goal appeared on the 25th of April this year. So, it really has been a lockdown project.
Since April I’ve been working on the technical aspects of taking sharp images which will print on a large scale, researching how best to distribute them and how to get them onto my website. I’ve found that Pixels.com /FineArtAmerica.com (same company, two interchangeable names) suit my needs best at the moment. They have distribution centres worldwide including one in the UK and they will handle all the printing and distribution, leaving me to concentrate on photography (and my other interests such as video) from now on. They offer absolutely huge prints. You can see in my photo below one of the larger sizes. Other products are available for each image such as greeting cards and notebooks. They also offer a 30 day money back guarantee so I know that they look after customers. They’re an independent company still owned by the founder and they sell on behalf of 100,000 artists. They’ve also been chosen as distributors by organisations such as National Geographic, Vogue, GQ, Wired, Slim Aarons and more. If they’re good enough for them, they’ll be good enough for me and I’ll be working hard to live up to that standard.
It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good and the chaos and heartache of this pandemic has nudged me in a new direction I’m very happy with.
Later this week, I’m going to write about the lessons I learned in 2020 that helped keep me motivated over these strange times.
