Rainy night in Soho
A couple of nights ago I met a friend at Tottenham Court Road tube station. We had no set route in mind so we ended up on Oxford Street, Soho, Carnaby Street, Regents Street, Piccadilly, Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and loads of quirky little back streets. It’s still quite quiet in London now that we’re in semi-lockdown. You walk past a lot of empty shops, pubs and restaurants and then you’ll see somewhere that’s buzzing. So the activity seems to be in pockets. If you want to stay socially distanced it’s easy to avoid people but, equally, if you want to crowd into a pub or mingle outside, it’s easy to find places where that’s available. We stayed far away from the madding crowd and covered quite a lot of ground. For the evening I came back with around 10 photos I’ll post on Instagram. Nothing that I can use to make into a print though. I just wasn’t taking enough time to compose or set up my shots.
I’m a big fan of neon and this image of Soho Radio is really attractive to me. In the midst of so many closures and dark shop windows, it's great to see some things are still carrying on regardless. It's nice to think of the DJ's voice and music angel-winging over the airwaves, bring happiness and comfort to people in their homes.
I love the way neon lights pop on a dark rainy night, so this is one type of look I’ll be spending more time on over this winter.
