Tetra Park by Mandy Lights at Canary Wharf
This light artwork from the Connected by Light exhibition is on a much larger scale than the one I showed yesterday. It covers a small park on Westferry Circus. It’s titled Tetra Park and it’s by the artist Mandy Lights (the same artist as yesterday’s artwork).
I did wonder whether the first day of the show would be busy but it certainly wasn’t at the time I visited which was around 4.30pm. This was on the day Lockdown 2.0 ended but there didn’t seem to be any rush of people. Maybe they were all in the shops doing their Christmas shopping? Or maybe in the packed queues outside Primark which made it on to the TV news. Whatever the reason, I was able to take a lot of photos here and enjoy it in almost splendid isolation.
A photo can’t show the range of colours so I did take some videos as well which I’ve not edited yet. I’ve also attached some other colour combinaton photos to this blog.
Looking ahead, we absolutely love Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and normally go there on our last work day before Christmas. But it’s closed this year so we’ve decided to go and take a tour of the Connected by Light exhibition instead, on the day before Christmas Eve. We’ll take some mulled wine and enjoy a stroll round. It’s going to be a lot more sedate than the Bavarian beer halls and wall to wall bright lights and funfairs of Winter Wonderland but we’ll appreciate it all the same.
A lot of our Christmas traditions will be missed this year but it won’t do us any harm to have a stripped back festive celebration and take proper time to enjoy what we do have. Last time I looked there was no restriction on buying chocolates and booze!
I hope you’re able to find substitutes for the things you’ll miss this year and that it turns out to be all right after all - or at least bearable.
