Day 2 of my 5 day challenge

Day 2 proved easier than day 1. Learning from my experience of yesterday, I didn’t walk around any dark areas and instead set out straight away for the bright lights of Canary Wharf and West India Quay.

This area, like the City, is completely transformed and the crowds have gone. The winter lights are already lit on the trees though, so it doesn’t feel “shut”, rather it’s “in waiting”.

On West India Quay, there were still a few restaurants and bars open, some of them really beautifully decorated. Even the ones which were closed had their lights on. It’s sad to think that they’ll all close after tomorrow if the UK vote on another 4 week lockdown goes ahead.

The shot I’ve chosen for today is one of the Big Easy restaurant. Mainly because it sits within the amazing structure of Crossrail Place. This vast building with its quilted style roof contains restaurants, bars, cinema, gyms and a huge open topped (in some places) roof garden. This too is a building which is in some ways “in waiting” because it sits on top of the new long awaited Elizabeth Line Canary Wharf tube station.

Architect Magazine described Crossrail Place as an "enormous, ship-like building", and its roof is the largest timber project in the United Kingdom” source Wikipedia.

It definitely creates a spectacular view, especially with the warm lights of the Big Easy setting it off against the night sky.
