Walking through winter to beat the coronavirus blues
After my week in Lyme Regis came the news of rising coronvirus rates and renewed restrictions in London. I felt I had to do something to keep me motivated, energised and just at one with the world. During the summer I would go out most days but on quite a few I would stay indoors all day. I love editing my photos, putting videos together, reading, watching films and TV with the family and chatting to people on Zoom so it wasn’t a hardship at all. We’ve also got a balcony so getting a bit of fresh air and a change of viewpoint was easy. For most of the time the windows were wide open anyway and it felt free and easy indoors.
With winter coming on though it’s a different matter and I feel I need to get out on a daily basis and do some proper exercise. So, on the first day back from our holiday I set off by myself to walk around the local area. It was raining but I put on my rainjacket and started off anyway. I’m pleased to say I’ve kept it going and I now look forward to it, rain or shine.
I do predict that a lot of people will be buying more rain and cold weather gear this year than they would have in the past. On rainy days, I see quite a lot of adult solo walkers like me and also family groups with the children togged out in all over waterproof suits and wellies, still playing on the swings.
Today’s photo was from my walk yesterday. The grey sky was set off against pale blue patches and the tallest building here is reflecting the beautiful pale blue sky in the west. This view is looking across the Thames towards the Surrey Quays area in south east London.
I hope you also manage to find your daily slice of “me time” over the next few months!
