Isle of Dogs challenge - Day 13 - Island Gardens to Poppy's Beach

Day 13 of my challenge was quite a short walk, although it took me quite a long time because I stopped to take so many photos. Starting at Island Gardens park, I walked eastwards and northwards along the river towards Poppy’s Beach. My featured photo today is looking over Poppy’s beach to the high rises of the Canary Wharf and Wood Wharf areas. Normally my blogs feature just one photo or a few but this short walk looks out on such a range of views and I was feeling so happy at getting out in the warmth again that I’m going to add quite a lot of photos.

So, today I’m going to take you with me on my ramble of a walk as I would in one of my videos.

Starting off in Island Gardens and looking to the west, is this view of the type of quirky architecture that’s common in the southern most part of the Isle of Dogs.

From the riverside space of Island Gardens you can look onto standout views of Greenwich with the prominent masts of the Cutty Sark and the dome of the under Thames foot tunnel.

Walking along a little further you can see the beautiful symmetry of the building of the Old Royal Naval College.

And the historic Trafalgar Tavern which is still (in normal, non coronavirus times anyway) a busy pub and restaurant with a large outdoor terrace right by the riverside. It’s not looking at it’s best at the moment due to some roof repairs.

Moving along, on the opposite side of the river we can now see the old Greenwich Power Station with its four very distinctive chimneys.

And one of the most distinctive buildings in this area of London which is probably the one that’s best known through the whole country and that’s the O2 dome and arena.

I really appreciated seeing the blossom on the trees so I took a couple of shots of that.

Next, I took quite a few shots of some tree surgeons and this is my favourite of those.

These stones were lying down at Poppy’s Beach and a local artist seems to have a new display regularly.

And I finished up with the sculpture Woman and Fish which I wrote about in my previous blog. If you haven’t yet seen that and read the surprising story of this piece you can find it here.

Someone pointed out to me a couple of days ago that he couldn’t comment on the blog. I’m really grateful for him taking the time to let me know. What I discovered when I checked it out, was that the comments had been working normally previously but that a setting had changed unknown to me and now anyone trying to comment was being met with a message to say that they’re not authorised to make comments. I’ve fixed that part now but I’ve still got a remaining issue which is that I can’t currently like comments. This isn’t something I can fix myself it seems, or at least I can’t find a way to do it even after searching all over. So I’m waiting for my website host to come back and let me know what’s wrong. It’s frustrating but that’s life online for you, things do change. If you ever see anything that’s not quite right on my blog or site, please let me know. If you have the time to give me that feedback I’d be really thankful.
